Hi guys! My name is Kara Haupt and I blog at I Just Might Explode. I'm excited to share a super simple DIY for one of my favorite summer trends, crop tops! I love the over-sized, boxy shirts showing up in stores, but was wary about investing in more styles since they're pretty trendy. I picked up this shirt at Goodwill for $4 and decided to make my own!
For this DIY, you will need:
An unused and/or thrifted shirt
A crop top to trace (Mine is from H&M)
Scissors
Pins
Cute trim
Funky thread (I used some metallic thread I picked up a thriftstore!)
First, slip the top you're altering onto a hanger and then slide the crop top over it. Be sure to match seams of both shirts to each other so the shirts will fall similarly.
Then next, use fabric scissors to cut along the edge of the crop top.
Once you've cut all around your top, grab some pretty, vintage trim, fold it in half and stitch around the bottom. I pinned the trim as I went to make it easier. You could definitely hem your edges with a sewing machine before you add the trim, but I want my top to eventually fray.
Pair your new top with some patterned shorts and you have yourself a cute, trendy summer look!
Outfits Details: Top: Thrifted/DIY Shorts: Thrifted(Miley Cyrus), Boots: Thrifted, Necklace: Forever21

XOXO, Kara

Love, love, love! All the pretty crop tops I've seen are stupidly expensive. And how cool would this be with things painted across it, a la Johnnie B?
Thanks for sharing. It's amazing.

This is a supre cute and fun project! I'm not to the point where I was put on a shirt that bares out my tummy but this is cute and the little detail at the bottom makes it so adorable. I'm loving the rush of DIY's since times are hard!
